Springerles (German Anise Cookies) twelve cookies packaged in a cellophane bag. Part of the Monastery Baked Goods line.

At our monastery set amid the rolling hills of Southern Indiana, the unique taste and aroma of springerle cookies have long evoked the Christmas season. For years, dating back likely to the 19th century, our sisters have been baking these special treats imprinted with holiday images, as part of the German heritage that so many of us have shared. We are pleased to offer this taste of an Old World Christmas to you.

Ingredients: flour (wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), powdered sugar (cane sugar, cornstarch), eggs, butter, honey, baking powder (baking soda, cornstarch, sodium aluminum sulfate, calcium sulfate, monocalcium phosphate), anise oil

These are delicious. They are just like I remembered my mother making as a child.

These cookies take me back to my childhood. The anise flavor, the texture, and the designs are unlike anything else out there. They are an absolute joy to look at and eat! Christmas (or Christmas in July!) wouldn't be complete without them.

Superb, could eat them all day long! Just love them just as my mother used to make them 60 years ago! Am going to try to make some myself. Good luck to me!

Flavor way too strong compared to what my mother used to make and what I got at Donut Bank for Christmas

    Delightful Texture

The cookies are moist and soft in the inside, good crisp on the outside and have the right amount of fennel, I was always against fennel and these cookies have changed my life beliefs!

Rey nice texture, although the anise flavor is fairly strong.
